Tim Hunter is an avid road racing enthusiast, competing on a regular basis in his 2011 Volvo C30 race car, on tracks throughout Southern California and beyond.
To keep the wheels turning and the motor running Tim needed to have a local source to do off track repairs and service to his track modified Volvo C30. His ‘Hunt’ for off paddock support landed him here at Lang Racing Development.
Work on Tim’s fully caged Volvo C30 started off simple enough with a corner balance and alignment and brake pad exchange.
Repairs took a step forward when the C30 Volvo gear box was acting up during one race and after it was Lang Racing Development taking the transmission out and sending it off to be rebuilt.
Once back the transmission was reinstalled just in time for Tim’s next race and then the engine itself failed right in the heat of a racing battle! The walls between cylinders one and two breeched right at the top of the cylinder stroke. The motor was done, and the car was back on the trailer headed back to Lang Racing Development once again.
Back at LRD the engine was removed and then torn down to access the damage and that was when the breech was actually discovered. From there a back up motor that Tim had was also accessed and found that it could be rebuilt but an interim solution was needed to get Tim racing again and competing for his class championship.
A stock replacement motor was found and the process of prepping that motor began. During the process we found the rivets in the clutch friction plate to be coming loose, and the clutch pack was replaced.
After the engine and transmission installation were completed, the setup was tested and broken in on our Mustang 500 all-wheel drive dyno.
